PROJECT STATUS: In Production

Set in the frozen isolation of the Arctic, this project combines elemental survival mechanics, environmental storytelling, and psychological tension in a third-person horror experience. While the research station provides safety from the storm and the predator outside, its sealed-off interior forces players to repeatedly brave the wilderness to unlock new paths and piece together the mystery within.

THE GAME:

Set in the frozen isolation of the Arctic, this project is a third-person survival horror game that combines environmental storytelling, elemental survival mechanics, and psychological tension. Players are sent to investigate a remote research station after all communication abruptly ceases. Shortly after arriving, their pilot disappears, and an unforgiving blizzard cuts off any hope of escape. With rescue impossible, the only way forward is to uncover the fate of the station's occupants while surviving one of the harshest environments on Earth.

While the station offers safety, uncovering its secrets means braving the storm outside.

Unlike traditional survival horror games, the primary threat is not the research station itself. Instead, the station becomes the player's sanctuary—a temporary refuge from the deadly cold and the relentless polar bear stalking the wilderness outside. However, that sanctuary is incomplete. Much of the facility has been hastily boarded up, barricaded, or left without power, leaving vital areas inaccessible. To continue the investigation, players must repeatedly leave the safety of the station and venture back into the storm to restore generators, locate alternative entrances, recover equipment, and unlock new sections of the base. Progress is achieved not by delving deeper into the station, but by surviving the wilderness long enough to find another way back inside.

This inversion of the traditional survival horror formula forms the game's core loop. Rather than escaping a dangerous building, players repeatedly return to one. Each expedition into the storm is a calculated risk, balancing dwindling warmth, limited visibility, and the constant threat of a predator against the need to uncover the truth hidden within the station's walls.

The game aims to create a constant sense of vulnerability through atmosphere rather than combat or scripted scares. The storm limits visibility, muffles sound, and obscures the movements of the polar bear, transforming familiar routes into dangerous expeditions. Storytelling is delivered through the environment itself, with abandoned workspaces, personal belongings, research notes, and subtle visual clues gradually revealing what happened to the station and why it was left to disappear beneath the snow.

KEY FEATURES:

  • A unique survival loop where the research station serves as a sanctuary, but progress requires repeatedly venturing back into the deadly wilderness.
  • An oppressive Arctic atmosphere, where weather, isolation, and sound design create sustained psychological tension.
  • A relentless predator, with a polar bear that roams the exterior, using the storm and terrain as cover while stalking the player.
  • Dynamic cold management, where prolonged exposure gradually becomes as dangerous as the predator itself.
  • A layered environmental mystery, uncovered through exploration, observation, and piecing together the station's history.
  • Interconnected level design, where repaired generators, unlocked doors, and newly discovered entrances gradually reveal more of the station.
  • Minimalist environmental storytelling, encouraging players to interpret the world rather than relying on lengthy cutscenes or exposition.
